IGBS – the 50-50 joint venture between HBS and IMG Media – completed its broadcast of the 18th Asian Games Jakarta Palembang 2018 on Sunday with coverage of the Closing Ceremony, headlined by leading musical acts from host country Indonesia and the Asia region.

Over 2,400 hours of material were distributed to Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) across 23 days of coverage from Indonesia, with 41 sports covered live and ENG crews rounding up the best of the action from the non-live competition.

With 462 events, this edition was the second-largest programme in Asian Games history, behind the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006, which were also fully host broadcasted by IGBS in its former guise – Doha Asian Games Broadcast Services (DAGBS).

Focusing on regional involvement, IGBS production teams were recruited in many cases from the continent’s leading broadcasters, in order to ensure expertise and consistency in the coverage – especially in the region-specific sports such as Kabaddi and selected Martial Arts.

A total of 11 ENG crews ventured out around the four venue clusters, 44 production teams based at the venues generated the aforementioned live content and 149 production staff  based at the IBC pushed 16 highlights shows; made over 200,000 logging entries; commentated on over 350 matches and competition sessions and QC’d, coordinated and planned the coverage of the Games down to the last detail.

The IBC itself covered 8,500 m2, including 2,000 m2 for multilateral space and 5,000 m2 for unilateral activities. A total of 54 rate card items were available, while a total of 17 Broadcast Liaison and Information Managers (BLIMs) ensured that services were delivered to RHBs.

The next edition of the Asian Games will take place in the Chinese city of Hangzhou in 2022.
